At Camcode, our goal is to make UID compliance easy for you. Part of that process is to provide you with access to other sources of information. Of course you can Google or Yahoo plenty of information about UID, but it can get confusing and is often more information than may be necessary for your applications. Here are a few links to help get you started on the right foot.
Building the Permanent Foundation: written in 2004 by Jon Andresen of Technology Solutions for the Defense Acquisition Review Journal, this is still one of the best introductions to UID and why it is what it is.
The UID Program Office: This is the official Government site supporting UID. Beware there is a lot of information here and probably more than you need to know. Still, include this in your reference links as it is a great place to read or download Mil-Std-130 in its most current version. Just go to the policy, regs, and standards in the left column of the home page.
We are often asked about UID data submission and registration of IUIDs. This information is best reviewed at this same website under IUID Data in the left column.

Metalphoto® Process Technology for on-site durable UID DoD labels, nameplates, data plates and tags: The Imaging Systems Group of Horizons Incorporated manufactures Metalphoto aluminum and related production technologies. This technology uses durable photographic anodized aluminum and the most effective production processes to generate thousands of UID labels effectively, accurately, and economically. There is no match for this technology for applications requiring high performance metal labels. Laser systems cannot compare in speed, output, graphic capability and economy to the Metalphoto technology.
