ASSET TAGS - SEQUENTIAL NUMBERING & BARCODE STICKER ASSET LABELS

Sequential numbering of Barcode Sticker asset tags typically uses numerical sequences beginning with any starting number. For example, an asset numbering sequence could begin with  01001 and would progress to 01002, 01003, etc. Sequential numbers allow for unique identification of fixed assets.

Prefixes can be used to reference departments, subsidiaries or divisions of an enterprise. Assets purchased in a specific year can be encoded using a prefix as well. Letter prefixes or suffixes would make them read C-01001 or 01001-C to incorporate additional element which doesn't change within that numerical sequence.

Sequentially numbered tags can be used without barcoding if small numbers of assets are being tagged for small businesses which can't justify the scale required to invest in barcoding readers and barcode software for their company or don't require barcoding. Color coded asset tags can be added to the mix if extra levels of complexity are required.

BarCoding & Sequential Numbering of Property ID Asset Security Labels:

Barcode scanners transmit a beam of light across the bars and spaces of a Barcode Sticker asset tag and it reflects back to the reader from the spaces between bars, converting those alternating light and dark spaces to numerical equivalents once it is transferred by the computer to the database from portable readers. In order to make use of barcoding, three elements are required.

  1. Scanners and transfer equipment to move the scanned data from the portable reader to a computer with software capable of moving the scanned data to a database of the encoded items.
  2. Computers with software capable or reading that scanned data and managing the database of items and capable of creating relevant reports and information connected to those assets.
  3. Sequentially numbered (human readable) and barcoded (machine readable) asset tags or labels to attach to assets.

Barcoding benefits are numerous for Property ID applications. Barcode readers capture encoded data fast and with near-perfect accuracy. This has the effect of  lowering costs, reducing mistakes, and speeding management of extensive corporate, government or educational institution assets.
